The Indian Meteorological Department has issued a red alert for severe heatwave conditions for Delhi, Rajasthan, Chandigarh, Punjab, Haryana, and Chandigarh. On the contrary, the advance of the Southwest Monsoon will be experienced in some parts of the South Andaman Sea, Kanyakumari, South of Bengal, and Nicobar Islands.
IMD’s severe heatwave warnings for THESE states:
The weather regulator has warned about the severe heatwave conditions and has issued red alerts for Delhi, Punjab, Chandigarh, and Haryana from May 20th to May 23rd. Similarly, East Rajasthan and West Rajasthan will experience it on May 22nd and May 23rd. Meanwhile, East Uttar Pradesh will have extreme heatwave conditions on May 20th, and in West Uttar Pradesh it will be there from May 20th to May 21st.
Heavy rainfall prediction:
According to the IMD weather report, a cyclonic circulation is lying over south interior Tamil Nadu and adjoining areas at low and mid-tropospheric levels. Under the impact of this, there is a chance of highly extreme rainfall over Kerala and Tamil Nadu from May 20th and will continue till May 22. Nicobar Island and Sikkim are also predicted to have the same weather conditions from May 20th to May 23rd. Meghalaya and Assam are also expected to have heavy rainfall on May 20th.
Temperature to Watch:
Regarding maximum temperatures, a gradual upsurge of about 2-3°C is likely to occur over some parts of Central India. Whereas, no major changes have been noticed in maximum temperatures over Northwest India in the upcoming two days. Also, no notable changes have been observed in the maximum temperatures over rest parts of India. On May 19th, Rajasthan, Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Punjab, Haryana, and Chandigarh were sizzling at 43-46 °C.
