Delhi Police Traffic Advisory: As India celebrates the 79th Independence Day tomorrow, the Delhi Police has issued strict travel advisories for the residents of Delhi NCR. As per tradition, the Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi will hoist the flag at the Red Fort and deliver a speech.

With preparations and rehearsals hampered by the rain gods today, Delhi NCR is drenched in torrential rain. However, the Delhi Police traffic advisory acknowledges the presence of heavy security and strict checking to ensure smooth traffic flow in the capital.

Independence Day 2025 Delhi Police Traffic Advisory

Road closures will be active between 4 AM and 10 AM. Only vehicles with valid parking labels will be allowed on the road on specific stretches. However, the Delhi Metro will be operating since 4 AM at 30-minute intervals till 6 AM. Normal routine will resume after that.

Netaji Subhash Marg – Delhi Gate to Chatta Rail Chowk (earlier advisory)

S.P. Mukherjee Marg – H.C. Sen Marg to Yamuna Bazar Chowk

Chandni Chowk Road – Fountain Chowk to Red Fort

Nishad Raj Marg – Ring Road to Netaji Subhash Marg

Esplanade Road and its link road to Netaji Subhash Marg

Lothian Road – GPO to Fountain Chowk (earlier advisory)

Roads to avoid: Travellers are advised to avoid these roads without official parking labels. The list includes, C-Hexagon, India Gate, Copernicus Marg, Mandi House, Sikandra Road, Tilak Marg, Mathura Road, BSZ Marg, Netaji Subhash Marg, JL Nehru Marg, Ring Road.

Independence Day 2025: Alternate routes to take

These routes will remain accessible in the North-South access: Aurobindo Marg – Safdarjung Road – Kamal Ataturk Marg – Kautilya Marg – S Marg – 11 Murti – Mother Teresa Crescent – Park Street – Mandir Marg – Panchkuian Road – Rani Jhansi Road. Connaught Place – Minto Road – Bhavbhuti Marg – Ajmeri Gate – Shradhanand Marg – Lahori Gate Chowk – Naya Bazar – Peeli Kothi – S.P. Mukherjee Marg. Nizamuddin Bridge – Pushta Road – GT Road – Yudhisthar Setu – ISBT.

Public Transport Accessibility

Local DTC buses won’t run on restricted roads between 4:00 AM – 10:00 AM.

Diversions would be in effect for buses coming from ISBT Kashmiri Gate, Mori Gate, Sarai Kale Khan, and Anand Vihar. Buses from South Delhi, East Delhi, and Ghaziabad will terminate at ISBT Sarai Kale Khan or Bhairon Road. Traffic around Old Delhi Railway Station (Chandni Chowk side) and New Delhi Railway Station (Ajmeri Gate side) will be restricted. Passengers are advised to approach via alternative routes through the Ring Road.

Independence Day 2025: Special safety instructions

The Delhi Police advised the public to avoid the Red Fort and surrounding areas unless necessary. Those attending the Independence Day 2025 celebrations are advised not to bring cameras, binoculars, remote control car keys, umbrellas, handbags, briefcases, transistors, cigarette lighters, tiffin boxes, water bottles, and lunch boxes. Flying sub-conventional aerial devices like drones etc. are also prohibited.
