The local meteorological department issued a ‘yellow’ alert for thunderstorms and lightning in isolated areas across six districts of Himachal Pradesh on Sunday and Wednesday. The department also forecasted continued wet conditions in the state until September 21.

Intermittent rains have been affecting various parts of the state, with Kasauli recording the highest rainfall of 53 mm since Saturday evening. Other rainfall totals include 26 mm in Dharampur, 20 mm in Renuka, 10 mm in Karsog, 7.9 mm in Nahan, 7.7 mm in Kalpa, 6 mm in Sarahan, and 5.6 mm each in Dharamshala and Kangra.

40 roads closed in state

The State Emergency Operation Centre (SEOC) reported that over 40 roads were closed and 53 power supply schemes were disrupted on Saturday evening.

So far, the state has experienced an 18 percent rainfall deficit for the current monsoon season, receiving 562.9 mm of rain compared to the average of 689.6 mm from June 1 to September 15. 

Officials have reported 169 deaths and 30 missing persons due to rain-related incidents since the monsoon began on June 27. The total damage has amounted to Rs 1,327 crore.
