The Indian Meteorological Department in its latest forecast has warned that East and Northwest India will continue to be in the grip of severe heatwave conditions for the next 3-4 days. Moreover, there is a high chance of heavy rainfall over Northeast India, Sub-Himalayan West Bengal, and Sikkim.
Red alert reissued for THESE states:
According to IMD’s weather bulletin, heatwave red alert areas have been reissued for East Uttar Pradesh from June 13 to June 16, Bihar from June 13, and West Uttar Pradesh from June 13to June 16. Jharkhand has also been added to the red alert zone for two days from June 13to June 14. Meanwhile, Uttar Pradesh has been warned of severe heatwave conditions from June 13 to June 16. Gangetic West Bengal will bear the scorching heat in the same period. The hot spell will also be there in Delhi, Uttarakhand, Punjab, Chandigarh, and Haryana for a few days. Odisha, Himachal Pradesh, and Jammu will bear the hot weather for today. On the other hand, northwest Rajasthan, northeast Rajasthan, and northeast Madhya Pradesh are projected to have it on June 13 and June 14.
Southwest Monsoon Status:
The Met Department has also identified that Southwest Monsoon has made its movement further by reaching more regions of Maharashtra, in some places of Chhattisgarh and Telangana. It is expected to further expand its reach in Coastal Andhra Pradesh, in some parts of Odisha, and northwest Bay of Bengal in 2-3 days.
IMD’s Warning for Heavy Rainfall
Two cyclonic circulations are observed by the weather agency, one placed over northeast Assam and adjoining areas and another one in Bangladesh and nearby areas in lower tropospheric levels. As a result of this weather pattern, isolated to heavy rainfall will occur in Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Meghalaya, Sub-Himalayan West Bengal, and Sikkim for four days. Today, extremely heavy rainfall is also forecast for Sikkim and Sub-Himalayan West Bengal whereas Meghalaya and Assam will also experience it on June 15. An average amount of rainfall along with lightning and thunderstorms is anticipated over Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Bihar, Odisha, Jharkhand, Gangetic West Bengal, and Vidarbha in the upcoming four days.
