Gautam Gambhir, the head coach of Indian men’s cricket team, reportedly got death threats from “ISIS Kashmir.” The former member of the Lok Sabha is believed to have received two threatening emails on April 22. Both alarming messages – one came in the afternoon and other in the evening – mentioned “IKillU.”
Concerned of his and his family’s safety, the cricketing sensation has since reached out to the Delhi Police. On Wednesday, he submitted a request to register an FIR, according to the SHO Rajinder Nagar Police Station and the DCP Central Delhi, ANI reported on Thursday.
“Former BJP MP and current head coach of the Indian cricket team, Gautam Gambhir, received a death threat from ‘ISIS Kashmir’. On Wednesday, he approached the Delhi Police, filing a formal complaint for an FIR and seeking measures to safeguard his family’s security,” the Office of Gautam Gambhir said, as per India Today.
Gautam Gambhir death threats followed the Pahalgam terror attack
The fear-inducing situation seems to have arisen after Gambhir expressed his condolences to those affected by the Pahalgam terror attacks in Baisaran valley meadow this week. In the same social media post, he also urged for an aggressive response from India: “Praying for the families of the deceased. Those responsible for this will pay. India will strike. #Pahalgam,” he tweeted on X on April 22 evening, the same day he reportedly received the threatening messages.
This wasn’t the first time the Indian cricket star received such chilling threats. Back in November 2021, he got a similar email when he was still a Member of Parliament. Earlier this month, Gambhir returned to India following a vacation in France with his family.
