A third-year B.Tech Computer Science student from the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Guwahati was found dead in his hostel room on Monday, according to the police. The student, originally from Uttar Pradesh, was discovered in his room at the Brahmaputra Hostel.

An investigation is currently underway, and the body has been sent for a postmortem examination, a police officer confirmed. This marks the fourth student death at IITG this year. Earlier, on August 9, a female student was reportedly found hanging in her room.

In a statement, a spokesperson for IITG expressed deep sorrow over the incident. “We are deeply saddened by the loss of one of our students. Our heartfelt condolences go out to the student’s family, friends, and loved ones during this difficult time.”

The spokesperson emphasised that student well-being remains the institute’s top priority. “We encourage our student community to seek help through our support networks. IITG is committed to maintaining a supportive and safe environment for all students,” the statement read. The institute also reaffirmed its dedication to prioritising the mental health and well-being of its students during these challenging times.
