The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) on Saturday alleged a “deep conspiracy” to eliminate its convener, Arvind Kejriwal, and warned that the BJP would be held responsible if anything were to happen to him. The allegations came after AAP leaders claimed that Kejriwal was attacked by “BJP goons” during his ‘padyatra’ campaign in west Delhi’s Vikaspuri.

In a press conference, AAP Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Singh stated, “The police’s involvement in the incident clearly points to a deep conspiracy to harm Kejriwal. The BJP has become a threat to his life.” There was no immediate response from the police or the BJP regarding Singh’s allegations. Despite the incident in Vikaspuri, AAP announced that Kejriwal would continue his ‘padyatra’ campaign as planned.

When asked why no formal complaint had been filed, Singh suggested that if the police were “impartial,” the attack would not have occurred. He accused the officers of failing to stop a group of attackers, whom he claimed were members of the BJP’s youth wing. In a separate press conference, Delhi Cabinet Minister Saurabh Bharadwaj echoed this sentiment, alleging that functionaries from the BJP Yuva Morcha were responsible. Bharadwaj identified the attackers as the vice president and general secretary of the BJP Yuva Morcha in Delhi and noted that they had lost recent council elections.

Sanjay Singh also accused BJP leaders of backing Kejriwal’s “attackers.” He urged the police to investigate the incident, adding that AAP was seeking legal advice on the next steps. Meanwhile, BJP leaders dismissed AAP’s claims, attributing the confrontation to local protests over the supply of dirty water.

Singh emphasised that Kejriwal would “neither stop nor bow down” and would continue advocating for Delhi residents. He warned that if Kejriwal were harmed in any way, the BJP would be held accountable, stating that the people of Delhi would “take revenge” if even a scratch was inflicted on the AAP leader.
