Congress leader Rahul Gandhi has come out in strong support of his brother-in-law Robert Vadra after the Enforcement Directorate (ED) filed a fresh chargesheet against him. In a post on X (formerly Twitter), Rahul said that the “current government” has been targeting Vadra for the past ten years and called the latest move part of a continued political witch hunt. He also expressed support for his sister Priyanka Gandhi and her family, saying they are strong enough to face what he described as false and politically driven attacks. Rahul said he believes the truth will come out in the end.
ED Chargesheet against Robert Vadra
Just hours after the Enforcement Directorate (ED) filed a chargesheet against Robert Vadra on Thursday, the businessman and Congress MP Priyanka Gandhi‘s husband responded by saying that he is ready to present his side in court and prove his innocence.
In a statement, Vadra’s office stated that he has always followed the law and will continue to cooperate with authorities. The statement added that he believes the truth will come out and that he will be cleared of all charges. It also called the current legal action part of a continued political attack against him by the present government.
The case relates to an alleged money laundering matter involving a land deal in Shikohpur, located in Haryana’s Gurugram district (earlier known as Manesar-Shikohpur, now Sector 83). This is the first time a criminal case chargesheet has been officially filed by any investigation agency against the 56-year-old.
The ED has submitted the chargesheet under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA) in a local court. It names Vadra along with several other people and companies. The agency has also attached 43 properties worth ₹37.6 crore, which belong to Vadra and his company Skylight Hospitality Pvt Ltd, as part of the ongoing investigation.
