VC Janardhan Rao, chairman and managing director of Veljan Group, was murdered at his residence by Kirti Teja his grandson over a property dispute according to the police. The incident took place on the night of February 6, when Kirti Teja attacked his grandfather with a knife, leading to his on-the-spot death.

The accused also attacked his mother as she was trying to intervene. She has also sustained injuries and was admitted to a hospital, according to the Panjagutta police. However, the accused was arrested on Saturday. Teja and his mother, who reside in a different area of the city, visited Rao’s house in Somajiguda on Thursday. While his mother stepped out to get coffee, an argument erupted between Teja and Rao regarding the distribution of Rao’s property, according to the police.

Teja pulled out a knife and “attacked” his grandfather, accusing him of neglecting him throughout his childhood and “refusing” to share the property with him, police said, citing initial investigations. When questioned about reports claiming the victim was stabbed over 70 times, police confirmed there were multiple stab wounds, but the exact number would be determined after the post-mortem examination (PME) report.

The accused had recently returned to Hyderabad from the US after completing his master’s degree, according to the police. Following a complaint, a murder case was filed against him, and he was arrested. The investigation is still ongoing.
