After assuming the office of the Chief Minister of Jharkhand last week, Hemant Soren on Monday won the trust vote in the state Assembly after he secured the support of 45 legislators out of the total 76 members.
The floor test was conducted during a special session of the Jharkhand Legislative Assembly after Hemant Soren moved a confidence motion.
The ruling alliance, led by Hemant Soren’s Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM), has 45 MLAs — JMM-27, Congress-17, and Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) 1 in the 81-member Assembly.

The BJP-led Opposition has 30 members. The total strength of the House came down to 76 after some members were elected to the Lok Sabha, reducing the halfway mark to 38.
Soren’s oath-taking ceremony as the chief minister took place on July 4 at Raj Bhavan, Ranchi, after he got bail from the Jharkhand High Court in an alleged land scam. He was sworn in after his predecessor Champai Soren stepped down from the post on July 3.

Hemant Soren was released from jail on June 28 after the Jharkhand High Court granted bail to him in a money laundering case linked to the land ‘scam’. He had resigned as the Chief Minister, shortly before his arrest on January 31 by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) in connection to the case.
