The Uttar Pradesh Police on Wednesday registered an FIR against the ‘Mukhya sevadar’ and other organisers of the religious congregation in Hathras where 116 people died following a stampede.
‘Mukhya sevadar’ Devprakash Madhukar and other organisers have been named in the first information report (FIR) filed at the Sikandara Rao police station late Tuesday, a senior officer told PTI.
The FIR states that despite organisers claiming an expected attendance of 80,000, around 2.5 lakh followers gathered at the ‘Satsang’ held on Tuesday.

The FIR has been registered under Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita sections 105 (culpable homicide not amounting to murder), 110 (attempt to commit culpable homicide), 126 (2) (wrongful restraint), 223 (Disobedience to order duly promulgated by the public servant), 238 (causing disappearance of evidence), the officer said.
However, Bhole Baba, the man behind the ‘Satsang’ that led to the stampede, has not yet been named in the FIR.
Uttar Pradesh chief minister Yogi Adityanath is expected to visit Hathras on Wednesday after a stampede at a religious congregation claimed the lives of 121 people on Tuesday.

Previously, the Uttar Pradesh government announced compensation of Rs 2 lakh to the families of those who were killed in the tragic incident.
