The Congress released a list of nine candidates for the upcoming Haryana Assembly elections on Sunday, featuring Brijendra Singh from Uchana Kalan and Mohit Grover from Gurugram. With this, the party has announced a total of 41 candidates for the 90-member assembly.
In addition to Singh and Grover, the Congress has fielded Ashok Arora from Thanesar, Kuldeep Sharma from Ganaur, Paramvir Singh from Tohana, Anirudh Chaudhary from Tosham, Balram Dangi from Meham, Manju Choudhary from Nangal Chaudhary, and Vardhan Yadav from Badshahpur.
Earlier on Friday, the Congress declared 32 candidates, including former chief minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda from Garhi Sampla-Kiloi, state party president Udai Bhan from Hodal, and wrestler Vinesh Phogat from Julana.
The party initially released a list of 31 candidates, later confirming Balbir Singh as its candidate from the Israna constituency, reserved for Scheduled Castes. Singh, the incumbent MLA from Israna, is among 28 Congress MLAs renominated by the party.
Apart from Hooda, Bhan, and Phogat, Mewa Singh has been fielded from Ladwa to challenge Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini.
The Congress is also negotiating a seat-sharing agreement with the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) for the Haryana polls, though some Congress leaders have expressed concerns about aligning with Arvind Kejriwal’s party.
Elections for the Haryana Assembly are scheduled for October 5, with vote counting set for October 8.
