Launching a blistering attack at the Congress party in Haryana’s Sonipat, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday said that hatred towards reservation is in the DNA of the grand-old party.

Addressing an election rally in Gohana for the October 5 Assembly polls, PM Modi said, “Whoever became the Prime Minister from the royal family of Congress has always opposed reservation. Opposition to reservation, hatred towards reservation, is in the DNA of Congress.”

“The Congress party has consistently excluded SC/ST/OBC communities from meaningful participation. It was Baba Saheb Ambedkar who ensured reservations for Dalits; without his efforts, like OBCs, Dalits would still be waiting for Congress’ defeat to get reservations. Whenever Congress is out of government, the poor and marginalised communities have been able to secure their rights. Conversely, when Congress is in power, it tends to undermine the rights of Dalits and backward classes,” he added.

He further said that if the Congress party comes to power even by mistake, it will destroy the state, adding that voting for the Congress means putting Haryana’s stability and development at stake.

He also spoke about Jammu and Kashmir amid the ongoing second phase polls alleging that Congress wants to bring Article 370 back to Jammu and Kashmir and wants to revive terrorism and separatism in the Valley.

“For appeasement, Congress wants to implement the agenda of the enemies of the country in India. Bringing back Article 370 would be an insult to the sacrifice of the heroes who fought against terrorism in Jammu and Kashmir,” the PM said.

The second phase of polling in Jammu and Kashmir is underway with a voter turnout of nearly 37% till 1 PM.

The results for Haryana and Jammu and Kashmir Assembly elections will be announced on October 8. Polling for the 90-member Haryana Assembly will be held in a single phase on October 4.
