A local BJP leader was fatally shot on Friday night in Haryana’s Sonipat district following a land dispute, police reported. Surendra Jawahar, the BJP Mundlana Mandal president, was attacked around 9:30 pm in Jawahar village when a neighbor fired three bullets at him.
Authorities stated that the suspect, whose identity has not been disclosed, was allegedly furious over a property dispute involving land Jawahar had purchased under the name of the accused’s aunt.
According to police, the suspect had previously warned Jawahar against stepping onto the disputed land. However, when the BJP leader visited the site on Friday night to clear it, a confrontation ensued, leading the accused to open fire.
CCTV footage captures Jawahar running into a shop while his attacker chases him. In the video, he is heard repeatedly shouting, “Mujhe maar diya” (He killed me), before the assailant catches up and shoots him point-blank.
Rishi Kant, ACP Gohana, in an interview with IANS, said, “Yesterday, we received information from Komal that a shooting incident occurred in Jawara village, where the village head, Surender, was shot and killed. The police have registered the case and formed three teams—two from the CIA and one mobile SHO team. The accused will be arrested soon…”

Jawahar succumbed to his injuries on the spot. Authorities have launched an investigation into the murder and are pursuing the suspect.
