A 36-year-old liquor businessman was shot dead by unidentified assailants at a dhaba in Murthal in Haryana’s Sonipat district on Sunday morning. Nearly 27 rounds of bullets were fired at him, according to the police.
The deceased, identified as Sunder Malik, hailed from Saragthal village in the district. Sonipat East DCP Gaurav Rajpurohit stated that the crime involved two to three assailants.

According to sources cited by The Indian Express, Malik arrived at the dhaba in his Scorpio late on Saturday evening, where he slept in the car in the establishment’s parking lot.“At 8 am, the assailants reached there in a car. Two of them opened fire on Malik, who was sitting in his car. They dragged him out from the car and again started firing at him.”
The incident occurred in a parking lot outside the eatery in Sonipat district, where the victim was shot dead, according to reports. Efforts are underway to locate the shooters.

CCTV footage captured Sunder attempting to defend himself as the assailants continued firing at him. A police official stated that the CCTV footage is currently under examination, and an investigation will be launched to ascertain the motive behind the killing, PTI reported.
Following the crime, the assailants fled the scene. Police records revealed that Malik had eight cases filed against him, including charges of murder, dacoity, and criminal intimidation.
In response to Malik’s cousin’s complaint, an FIR has been filed against several individuals, including two from Saragthal.
DCP Rajpurohit mentioned that the police have assembled seven to eight teams to apprehend the culprits. Additionally, the DCP emphasised that the police would delve into Malik’s criminal record. As of now, no arrests have been made.
