The Commission for Air Quality Management (CAQM) on Monday (February 3) lifted Stage III of the Graded Response Action Plan (GRAP) across Delhi-NCR, effective immediately. However, measures under GRAP Stage I and II will remain in place to control pollution levels, according to the latest report from the CAQM.
Stage III of GRAP had been implemented in Delhi on January 31, after a significant deterioration in air quality due to calm winds and smog, which caused the Air Quality Index (AQI) to spike to 365, as reported by PTI.
What is prohibited under GRAP Stage 2?
- The use of coal and firewood is prohibited, including the use of tandoors in restaurants and hotels.
- Diesel generator sets are banned, except for emergency and essential services.
- Construction and demolition activities, as well as industrial units with specific closure orders, are not permitted to resume operations.
What are the restrictions under GRAP Stage 1?
- Strict checks on polluting vehicles, enhanced traffic management, and emission controls for industries, power plants, and brick kilns.
- A ban on open burning of waste, limited use of diesel generators, and no coal or firewood usage in eateries.
