A goods train travelling along the Delhi-Mumbai route derailed in Madhya Pradesh on Thursday night, near Ratlam. Authorities confirmed that no one was injured in the incident, though it disrupted rail traffic on the down line.

“Three coaches derailed—one has already been lifted, while the other two have minor issues but will be addressed soon. We’re not cancelling any trains, though delays are possible. The train was en route from Rajkot to Bakaniya, near Bhopal. Investigations are underway,” Ratlam DRM Rajneesh Kumar told ANI.

Videos of the incident, which have since gone viral, show the overturned compartments, with officials and locals on the scene, using flashlights to assess the situation.

Officials are working to restore the route, with efforts ongoing early Thursday. An investigation team is also probing the cause of the derailment.

According to PTI, the train was transporting petroleum products from Rajkot, Gujarat, to Bakania-Bhouri, near Bhopal.

“One of the wagons is leaking petroleum products, and we’re taking all precautions to prevent any untoward incidents,” Kumar added, speaking to PTI.

Senior railway officials and rescue teams arrived at the site soon after the derailment, with public announcements urging people to stay away from the derailed wagons and avoid lighting cigarettes or bidis. Of the three wagons, one has already been removed, while the other requires a crane to be moved from the tracks.

Only the down line was affected, with officials reporting that two trains were stranded as a result of the derailment.
