At least four persons died while many others were left injured after a passenger train collided with goods train near Bilaspur station in Chhattisgarh on Tuesday. Officials said the incident occurred at 4 pm and the railway authorities have moved all the resources at the spot.
The MEMU local train No. 68733 (Gevra Road–Bilaspur) collided with a goods train on the up line between Gatora and Bilaspur, and further rescue operations are underway.
The railway authorities have announced an compensation of Rs 10 lakh each to kin of the deceased and Rs 5 lakh to the seriously injured persons, reported PTI. Those with minor injuries will receive Rs 1 lakh assistance, an official statement said.

Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai connected with Bilaspur Collector Sanjay Agrawal through a video call and took detailed information about the train incident.
In a post on X, Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai said, “The news of the train accident near Bilaspur is extremely heartbreaking. Information has been gathered from the Bilaspur District Collector, and instructions have been issued to provide them with all possible assistance and relief efforts.”
“The state government stands with the affected families during this difficult time. Teams from the railways and administration have immediately sprung into action for relief and rescue operations. All necessary resources and medical assistance are being ensured for the treatment of the injured. The state government is closely monitoring the situation with complete vigilance and sensitivity,” he added.

Meanwhile, IG Sanjeev Shukla said that some people have been injured and the rescue operation is underway to save a person trapped inside.
Speaking on the incident, Chhattisgarh Deputy CM Arun Sao called it ” very tragic” .
“The front coach, which also included the engine and some passengers, was damaged in the collision. Senior railway and state government officials have reached the site, and full-scale rescue and relief operations have begun…” he added.
Railways said a detailed inquiry into the incident will be conducted at the level of the Commissioner of Railway Safety (CRS) to ascertain the cause and recommend necessary corrective measures.
