The Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) received a threatening email on Monday, warning that the Golden Temple would be ‘blown up’ using explosives. The alarming message prompted immediate action from local authorities.

Following the threat, security around the revered shrine in Amritsar was significantly tightened. A bomb disposal squad was deployed and additional police personnel were stationed throughout the temple complex as a precautionary measure.

Amritsar Police Commissioner Gurpreet Singh Bhullar confirmed the threat and said an FIR has been registered based on the SGPC’s complaint. He added that the Punjab Police cybercrime unit, along with other investigative wings, has launched a probe to trace the source of the email.

An SGPC official highlighted the scale of the potential threat by noting that more than one lakh devotees and tourists visit the Golden Temple every day.

Amritsar MP urges swift, strong action

Reacting to the development, Amritsar MP Gurjeet Singh Aujla demanded immediate intervention. In a post on X, he wrote: “An email has been received threatening to blow up Sri Harmandir Sahib (Golden Temple) with RDX. This is not just a threat to a religious site – it’s an attack on peace, faith & humanity.”

Aujla called on Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann and DGP Gaurav Yadav to act decisively: “Security MUST NOT be compromised. All departments must remain on HIGH ALERT. We cannot afford any lapse in intelligence or protection. We stand united to protect our heritage,” he said.
