What happened and what actions have been taken till now?

As per the latest update from PTI, the Goa government has stepped up action against the Romeo Lane club chain following the deadly fire at its Arpora outlet. Two other properties of the group in Goa have been seized. A state police team has been sent to Delhi to trace the promoters, Saurabh and Gaurav Luthra, against whom an FIR has been registered.

The fire broke out late Saturday night at Birch by Romeo Lane, killing 25 people, most of them club employees. The victims also included five tourists, and four from Delhi. As of now, four senior staff members have been arrested, including the club’s chief general manager, bar manager, general manager and gate manager.

It was further reported by PTI that the fire was likely triggered by electric firecrackers used inside the club. The facility did not have a valid fire safety clearance, and most victims died from suffocation after getting trapped. The affected area was mostly on the ground floor and the kitchen area. The Goa Chief Minister has ordered action against officials who permit the club to operate despite a safety breach.
