Industrialist Gautam Adani visited Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on Tuesday at his official residence, ‘Sagar’ bungalow, in south Mumbai. Fadnavis, 54, took the oath as Maharashtra’s chief minister on December 5 during a grand ceremony at Azad Maidan in south Mumbai.

According to PTI sources, it was a courtesy visit as Adani was unable to attend Fadnavis’ swearing-in ceremony earlier. The meeting was a chance for the two to connect following Fadnavis’ return to power.

The event was attended by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, several Union ministers, chief ministers from various states, and thousands of supporters from the Mahayuti alliance.

Notable personalities at the ceremony included actors Shah Rukh Khan, Salman Khan, Ranbir Kapoor, and Madhuri Dixit, along with cricket legend Sachin Tendulkar and industrialist Mukesh Ambani.

Gautam Adani controversies

In November 2024, U.S. prosecutors indicted Gautam Adani, his nephew Sagar Adani, and six others for allegedly offering bribes totaling Rs 2,029 crore ($265 million) to Indian government officials. The bribes were reportedly intended to secure “lucrative solar energy supply contracts” with state electricity distribution companies.

The Adani Group had been under intense scrutiny following a critical report by U.S. short-selling firm Hindenburg Research in January 2023, which raised concerns over the conglomerate’s financial practices and corporate governance.
