Gandey Election result 2024 Highlights: JMM’s Kalpana Soren wins big, defeats BJP’s Muniya Devi by 17,142 votes

Kalpana Murmu Soren of the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha has won the Ranchi Assembly seat, defeating BJP’s Muniya Devi by a margin of 17,142 votes with a total of 119,372 votes.

Kalpana Murmu Soren (Jharkhand Mukti Morcha) leading with 111,618 votes (+13,056), while Munniya Devi (Bharatiya Janata Party) trails with 98,562 votes (-13,056).

In a U turn, Kalpana Murmu Soren of the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha leads with 73,925 votes, holding a slim margin of 1,612 votes over Muniya Devi of the Bharatiya Janata Party, who trails with 72,313 votes.

As of Round 10, Muniya Devi of the Bharatiya Janata Party leads with 55,846 votes, holding a margin of 7,634 votes over Kalpana Murmu Soren of the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha, who stands at 48,212 votes.

Muniya Devi of the Bharatiya Janata Party is ahead with 27,485 votes, maintaining a lead of 3,621 votes over Kalpana Murmu Soren of the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha, who trails with 23,864 votes.

In the 2019 parliamentary elections, Gandey had 269,084 registered voters and 375 polling booths. The constituency saw a voter turnout of 70.83% in the parliamentary elections, which was slightly higher than the 69.62% turnout recorded during the 2019 Assembly elections.

Munya Devi of the Bharatiya Janata Party is leading with 7,093 votes, holding a 3,128-vote margin over Kalpana Murmu Soren of the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha, who trails with 3,965 votes.

With 1.26 crore women voters in Jharkhand, both the JMM and BJP have focused on this key demographic. The BJP’s “Gogo Didi Yojana” promises Rs 2,100 per month to eligible women, aiming to attract women voters alongside JMM’s initiatives.

Jai Prakash Verma from the BJP emerged victorious, securing 48,838 votes, which accounted for 28.90% of the total vote share. Salakhan Soren of the JMM finished as the first runner-up, garnering 38,559 votes and a vote percentage of 22.81.

Dr. Sarfraz Ahmad, a 66-year-old male candidate from the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM), secured 34.71% of the votes, winning with 65,023 votes. He was followed by Jai Prakash Verma, a 48-year-old male from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), who received 56,168 votes, or 29.98% of the total. Arjun Baitha, a 51-year-old male candidate from the Ajsu Party, garnered 15,361 votes, accounting for 8.2%. Sunil Kr Yadav, an independent male candidate aged 40, secured 9,900 votes (5.28%), while Karmila Tudu, a 32-year-old female independent candidate, received 9,056 votes (4.83%). Dilip Kumar Verma, a 47-year-old male from the Jharkhand Vikas Morcha (Prajatantrik), also contested in the race.

Muslims, Scheduled Castes, and Scheduled Tribes are significant voting blocs in Gandey, comprising 26.8%, 11.35%, and 20.23% of the electorate, respectively. The constituency's predominantly rural nature and diverse demographics make these groups crucial in shaping election outcomes.

In the May 20, 2024, Gandey bypoll, Kalpana Soren, wife of Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren, secured her first political victory, defeating BJP candidate Dilip Kumar Verma by a margin of 26,483 votes. This win marked her debut in politics and was part of a strategic move by the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) to field her in the constituency after vacating the seat.

The Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) has won the Gandey Assembly seat six times since 1977. The BJP and Congress have each won the seat twice, while the Janata Party secured it once. The seat’s outcome is often determined by the support of tribal and Muslim voters.

Kalpana Soren has promised significant development for Gandey if re-elected in the Jharkhand Assembly election. Speaking at a public meeting, Soren pledged to fulfill the area’s long-standing demands and make Gandey the most developed constituency in Jharkhand.
