A massive fire broke out at a local warehouse in Kolkata early Saturday morning, November 15. Although initial updates did not indicate any loss of life, at least 20 fire engines are said to have rushed to the scene at 26, Ezra Street to douse the blaze, as per multiple reports.

ANI has since shared visuals of authorities working together to extinguish the flames. As firefighting operations reportedly remain underway, Ranvir Kumar, Director General, West Bengal Fire & Emergency Services eventually shared that the situation was under control. “Fire is now confined,” he said.

Kumar also told ANI that the fumes became “massive” due to heavy presence of electrical and electronic goods inside the building. “The situation is now under control. Fire is now confined. Because these are electrical goods, the fumes are huge,” he added.

The official also confirmed 20 fire tenders worked in collaboration with 9 jets to put out the fire. “There is no loss of life,” he affirmed, as shocking videos captured large smoke clouds emanating from the building on Ezra Street.

This latest incident of a Kolkata blaze comes over a week after a fire consumed a car parts warehouse on RN Mukherjee Road. The unprecedented development particularly gained eyeballs due to the impacted location being just a few hundred metres from Lalbazar, the Kolkata Police Headquarters. At the time, six fire engines were needed to put out the flames.

The fire broke out in the warehouse. However, due to its presence in a congested area and the involvement of flammable materials, the blaze spread to a nearby godown as well.
