Farmers from Uttar Pradesh are set to march from Noida to Delhi’s Parliament complex today, where the Winter Session is underway, to demand compensation and benefits under the new agricultural laws. The Bhartiya Kisan Parishad (BKP), alongside allied groups like the Kisan Mazdoor Morcha (KMM) and Samyukt Kisan Morcha (SKM), is spearheading the protest.

The march, led by BKP leader Sukhbir Khalifa, will commence at 12 pm from the Mahamaya Flyover in Noida, with farmers traveling on foot and tractors. Participants from 20 districts, including Gautam Buddh Nagar, Agra, Aligarh, and Bulandshahr, are expected to join the rally.

Farmers’ Demands

The farmers have outlined five critical demands:

  1. Compensation and Land Allocation: A 10% allocation of plots and a 64.7% increase in compensation under the old acquisition law. For land acquired post-January 1, 2014, they demand four times the market rate in compensation and 20% of the acquired plots.
  2. Employment and Rehabilitation: Employment and rehabilitation benefits for children of landless farmers.
  3. Execution of High Power Committee Orders: Implementation of government orders passed by the High Power Committee.
  4. Settlement of Populated Areas: Equitable and fair settlement of populated regions impacted by land acquisition.

Increased Security Measures

In anticipation of the protest, police in Delhi-NCR have enhanced security and diverted several routes to manage the influx and prevent disruptions. Authorities are also monitoring the situation to ensure the safety and smooth functioning of the city during the march.
