The Haryana Police in Ambala district on Wednesday started the process of passport and visa cancellation of those individuals who were involved in breaking barricades or causing disturbances at the Punjab-Haryana border during the recent farmer agitation.

Ambala DSP Joginder Singh told The Indian Express, “We are taking action against only those rowdies who were involved in disturbances during the farmer agitation. We have started the process of communication with the authorities concerned in this regard.”

The officer clarified that not everyone participating in the farmer agitation is involved in such activities.

The police have identified these people through CCTV, drone cameras, and videography, capturing instances of breaking barricades and causing disturbances. The process involves contacting passport authorities and relevant embassies to cancel their passports and visas.

The main motive behind this is to address and identify the involvement of individuals who created disturbances during the farmer protest in Haryana.

Meanwhile, leaders of Haryana farmer unions have claimed that the state police have posted notices on their residences, indicating that the damages caused to public and private properties during the agitation will be compensated by seizing the properties of the farmers and freezing their bank accounts.

“Notices have been put up on the houses of over a dozen farmer unions’ leaders, most of whom are associated with the BKU (Shaheed Bhagat Singh) Ambala, a KMM constituent. Our phones have been put on surveillance, and police are visiting our houses because we are protesting against the government and raising our genuine demands,” BKU (Shaheed Bhagat Singh) Haryana spokesperson Tejveer Singh told The Indian Express.

Punjab police files murder case for farmer’s death

Days after the death of Shubhkaran Singh, a farmer in his 20s, amid clashes between protesting farmers and security personnel at the Khanauri border point, the Punjab Police registered a murder case on Wednesday night, as PTI reoprted.

Shubhkaran, a native of Bathinda, lost his life, meanwhile, 12 security personnel were injured during clashes at Khanauri border on February 21. The incident unfolded as some protesting farmers attempted to move towards police barricades established to hinder their ‘Delhi Chalo’ march.

The Punjab Police has initiated a case against unidentified persons under sections 302 (murder) and 114 (abettor present when an offence is committed) of the Indian Penal Code at the Patran Police station in Patiala following the complaint of Shubhkaran’s father.

The FIR’s registration ends the deadlock between the farmers and the Punjab government, allowing for a post-mortem examination.

Farmers, predominantly from Punjab, participating in the protest have been stationed at the Shambhu and Khanauri border points. Farmer leaders have affirmed that the protesters will persist at Khanauri and Shambhu until February 29, when the next course of action will be determined. They have been urging the Centre to concede to their demands, including a legal guarantee on the minimum support price for crops and farm loan waiver.
