A murder case has bring to forth a messy family feud in Punjab involving the former DGP of the state, his wife, their son and his wife. Haryana police has booked Punjab’s former Director General of Police (DGP) Mohammad Mustafa, his wife, Razia Sultana, a former state minister, and two others in the alleged murder case of their son – Akil Akhter.

The Panchkula police said that Mustafa, Sultana, along with Akhter’s wife and sister, have all been named in the case.

Akhter was found dead at his house in Sector 4, MDC, Panchkula, said Panchkula Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Srishti Gupta on October 16.

Family informed the police, and it seemed a drug overdose case with nothing suspicious. But then a video of the deceased surfaced, unravelling murky details.

Akhter’s first video: The affair allegation

A day after his death, the police received a complaint from Shamshuddin of Malerkotla, Punjab, alleging foul play in the incident, saying he could be poisoned.

“I have discovered my wife’s affair with my dad. I am under immense mental trauma. My mother and sister are also part of the conspiracy,” he added.

Later surfaced 35-year-old Akil Akhter’s video that was recorded on August 27, weeks before his death. In the 16-minuted-long video, the deceased said he was living in trauma as he discovered the affair of his wife and father. In the video, Akhter said he found about this years ago and feared of false cases by his father. Expressing fear on his life, Akhter said that his mother and sister were also part of the plan and they all were plotting to have him out of their way.

Speaking on the video, Panchkula DCP said, “The complainant has expressed suspicions based on the allegations of foul play. There is a video that the deceased posted on social media in which he says that if he was found dead, there is a dying declaration in a diary and whether he was poisoned… We have included all of these in our investigation so that there is complete transparency and a fair investigation in this matter. We have immediately constituted an SIT under an ACP rank officer and on the basis of proper scientific evidence we are investigating. The viscera samples are under analysis, so whenever their report comes, the cause of death will be determined from that.”

Following this, the police registered a murder case against the parents of Akhter.

Story continues – Akhter’s second video

Days later, another video of Akil’s came to light, adding that his family has imprisoned him at home labelling him as “mentally unstable”. “This confinement was illegal… They threatened to frame me in a rape or murder case if I took any step against them,” he alleged, reported Hindustan Times.

In the later video, Akhter retracted his previous allegations, calling it a result of mental stress. But he added and said, “Will they get me killed?”

the ex-top cop, Mustafa meanwhile dismissed the allegations calling them “baseless”, claiming that his son was mentally unstable and a drug addict.

“He had been admitted to rehabilitation centres multiple times. The video was made when he was not in a sound mental state,” Mustafa said. He added that Aqil later posted another video in October “contradicting” his earlier claims.
