Student suicide: A third-year mechanical engineering student at MS University died by suicide after jumping off the eighth floor of an under-construction building in Vadodara. The incident took place on Sunday afternoon.

What does the CCTV footage show?

Chintan Patel parked his bike outside the Maple Vista Apartment near Aksharchowk at 11:57 AM. He then climbed to the eighth floor on foot since the building is under construction and doesn’t have a lift. As per a report by Dainik Bhaskar, Patel climbed a total of 180 stairs to reach the terrace.

Before taking the tragic step, he made several calls to his relatives and his father from the terrace. He remained there for over an hour.

Student’s last call to father

Dainik Bhaskar reported that before he took the extreme step, he made one final call to his father after all the calls went unanswered.

“Everything happens because of me, I don’t want to live,” he reportedly told his father, Mukheshbhai, who works as a technician at Baroda Medical College.

Patel was 200-300 metres away from me: Eyewitness

The outlet further reported that an eyewitness, who noticed Patel pacing the parapet of the building, dialled the police control room. Samirbhai Shah further said that Patel was some 200-300 metres away from him and ended his life before police arrived at the scene. Although he was given CPR by the medical responders, his life couldn’t be saved.

“It happened in seconds,” Samirbhai Shah was quoted by Dainik Bhaskar as saying.

Police have recovered his bike, bag, and mobile phone, and have sent them for forensic analysis. His last rites were performed at Khaswadi crematorium on Monday.
