Amid suspense over his successor, Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde on Tuesday tendered his resignation to Governor CP Radhakrishnan at Raj Bhavan in Mumbai. He will serve as caretaker of the new Mahayuti-led government for now.

Deputy chief ministers Devendra Fadnavis and Ajit Pawar were also present as the BJP-led Mahayuti staked claim to form the new government. Even though the winning combine has failed to announce the new CM face, Shinde tendered his resignation as the tenure of the Maharashtra Assembly comes to an end today.

Mahayuti alliance consisting of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Shinde’s faction of Shiv Sena and the Ajit Pawar’s faction of the NCP emerged victorious in Maharashtra assembly elections.

All eyes are keen on who will secure the CM’s post. Despite the Mahayuti alliance securing a massive victory, winning 230 seats in the 288-member assembly, consensus has eluded the ruling combine’s leaders so far.

Shinde’s supporters have been saying that he should continue as CM as the landslide win was achieved under his leadership. On the other hand, leaders of the BJP, which recorded its highest-ever tally in the state assembly elections, have been pitching for Deputy CM Devendra Fadnavis to take oath at the CM for a third time, PTI reported.
