A temporary structure erected at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in south Delhi collapsed, injuring 29 people. The incident took place at around 11 AM.
The majority of those injured were workers who were present under the temporary tents when the collapse occurred, according to a police official.
Of the injured, 18 individuals were admitted to the AIIMS Trauma Centre, while 11 were taken to Safdarjung Hospital. Among those admitted to AIIMS, one required immediate surgery, according to police.
A Delhi Fire Services official said that they received a distress call regarding the collapse of the pandal (temporary tent) at the stadium. Initially, two individuals were rescued from the debris, followed by the rescue of 27 more individuals.
The pandal was in the process of being set up for a wedding function near Gate No 2 of the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium.
According to an AIIMS spokesperson they began receiving the injured individuals at 11:52 AM upon notification from the authorities. Seven patients were admitted to the Emergency department with severe injuries, while 11 others were admitted with moderate injuries. All patients received immediate attention in the emergency department, undergoing necessary examinations, investigations, and treatment.
A senior police officer stated that the cause of the incident is still under investigation, and a case will be registered under the relevant sections of the law.
