The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) alleged on Sunday that the Election Commission (EC) has banned the party’s Lok Sabha campaign song, ‘Jail ke jawab mein hum vote denge,’ claiming it portrays the ruling BJP and central investigation agencies negatively. However, there was no immediate response from the poll panel regarding the AAP’s claim.

Speaking at a press conference, senior AAP leader Atishi said, “It is probably the first time that the EC has imposed a ban on a party’s campaign song.”

According to Atishi, the EC cited that the song depicts the ruling party and investigation agencies in an unfavorable light.

She further said that the song does not explicitly mention the BJP and does not violate the Model Code of Conduct, adding that the song shows factual videos and incidents.

Atishi said, “If the BJP acts dictatorially, it is acceptable. But if someone talks about it, that is deemed wrong. This indicates that democracy is in jeopardy.”

“Today, Election Commission of India has banned AAP’s campaign song. This would have happened for the first time in the history of India that the Election Commission would have banned the campaign song of any party. This is the same Election Commission which does not see when BJP violates the model code of conduct every day.”

The AAP’s campaign song, which runs for over two minutes, was composed and sung by AAP MLA Dilip Pandey. It was unveiled at the party headquarters in New Delhi on Thursday.
