A fierce dust storm swept through Delhi-NCR on Wednesday evening, with wind speeds reaching up to 79 kmph over Safdarjung, drastically reducing visibility and causing widespread disruption. The sudden weather change also brought a brief hailstorm in Delhi’s Lodi Road area, along with isolated spells of rain in parts of the capital.

In East Delhi’s Yamuna Vihar, Bhajanpura, and Gokalpuri, massive columns of dust rolled through the streets, while trees swayed violently under the force of strong winds. Similar scenes were reported from Noida, where the dust storm significantly reduced visibility.

Visuals from several areas, including Lodi Road, captured trees shaking and loose debris flying through the air as the intense winds swept the region.

According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), the sudden weather activity was linked to a cyclonic circulation over Haryana, embedded in an east-west trough extending from Punjab to Bangladesh. The system is pulling moisture from both the Arabian Sea and the Bay of Bengal, creating unstable atmospheric conditions across northern India.

The IMD had earlier forecast gusty winds and light rainfall for Delhi-NCR. Authorities have urged residents to remain indoors during such extreme weather. So far, no injuries or major damages have been reported.
