Adil Belal and constable Chandramaouli Nagia have been removed from their current postings in Sasaram and they have been shifted to the headquarters with immediate effect. The case has been transferred to the CID for further investigation”, PTI reported.
The incident took place on December 18, when DSP Belal allegedly fired at a group of people in purported self-defence near the Nagar Nigam office in Sasaram. Following the incident, two FIRs were filed — one by the police and another by the deceased’s brother, Rana Rahul Ranjan. Ranjan alleged that the police shot his brother after he refused to bribe them.
According to police accounts, the incident began when four men, returning from a birthday party and in an inebriated state, attempted to flee when spotted by a police patrolling unit near a railway station. A scuffle broke out, and DSP Belal, who was returning from a wedding in civilian clothes, noticed the altercation and instructed his bodyguard, constable Chandramaouli, to intervene. During the confrontation, an air gun was reportedly fired by one of the youths, prompting the DSP and constable to retaliate. In the ensuing exchange of fire, Rana was killed, and two others were injured.
