Infosys founder Narayana Murthy and his wife, Sudha Murthy, who is a Rajya Sabha member and author, have declined to participate in Karnataka government’s Socio-Economic and Academic Survey, commonly referred to as the caste survey. In light of the couple opting out of the survey, officials disclosed their response penned on the survey form.
In their self-attested letter to the Karnataka State Backward Classes Commission, they cited personal reasons for their decision, adding that the government would not gain nothing from their participation.
“We and our family will not participate in the census, and we are confirming it through this letter,” they wrote in the declaration form. “We do not belong to any backward class. Hence, participating in this survey will not be of any help to the government. Therefore, we decline to participate,” as quoted by the Deccan Herald.
Bengaluru caste survey
The consequential revelation came to light after census enumerators reached out to the couple at their house in Jayanagar. The Indian news outlet further cited sources indicating that about 15.42 lakh households had been covered in Bengaluru. But, even therein, participants are believed to have replied to only 25% of the total questions. With the Silicon Valley of India still quite behind schedule, the deadline for the census conclusion may soon be extended till October 27.
