Ahead of the inauguration of the Ram Mandir in Ayodhya, Congress senior leader Digvijaya Singh sparked controversy with his remarks on the idol of Ram Lalla, alleging that the idol seated in the temple does not resemble a child.

Taking it to X, Singh raised questions about the whereabouts of the old Ram Lalla idol, claiming that the idol being seated is nothing like a child’s sculpture.

“I have been saying this from the beginning: Where is the idol of Ram Lalla, whose idol was controversial and destroyed? What was the need for the second statue? Our Guru Shankaracharya Swami Swaroopanand Ji Maharaj had also suggested that the idol of Lord Ram in the Ram Janmabhoomi temple should be in the form of a child and should be in the lap of Mother Kaushalya. But the idol that is being seated in the temple does not look like a child.” he posted earlier today.

The idol of Lord Ram was placed inside the sanctum sanctorum of the temple in Ayodhya on Thursday. Covered with a veil, the first photo of the idol was revealed during the placement ceremony. The Pran Pratishtha is scheduled for January 22, led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

In response, BJP’s Uma Bharti dismissed Singh’s remarks, stating that his words lack significance. “His words have lost importance,” she said.

“He (Digvijaya Singh) has a habit of saying something or another. His words have lost importance. Let us not talk about such people who keep speaking unnecessarily and waste our time,” she told ANI.

Earlier, Digvijaya Singh accused the Bharatiya Janata Party, Vishwa Hindu Parishad, and RSS of aiming to demolish the Babri Masjid without genuine intentions to build a temple. He alleged that these groups want to keep the issue alive as a communal one until the mosque is demolished.

Notably, top Congress leaders including Mallikarjun Kharge, Sonia Gandhi, and Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury, declined an invitation to the ‘Pran Pratistha’ ceremony of Lord Ram Lalla in Ayodhya, terming it as a “BJP and RSS event.”
