Dense Fog in Delhi-NCR: A thick blanket of fog shrouded parts of Delhi NCR early Wednesday, reducing visibility to near zero on several roads and highways. The phenomenon follows an orange alert issued by the India Meteorological Department (IMD), warning of dense to very dense fog in the capital. Areas such as Laxmi Nagar, New Delhi Railway Station, Shankar Vihar, and regions bordering Uttar Pradesh reported extremely low visibility. The foggy conditions are expected to persist in isolated areas throughout the week, according to the IMD.
IMD Issues Orange Alert
The IMD had earlier issued an orange alert in Delhi, cautioning residents about potential disruptions caused by dense fog. Travelers were advised to stay updated with airlines and railways regarding possible delays.
Advisory Issued by IGI Airport
At 4:35 am on Wednesday, the Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGI) in Delhi released an advisory warning passengers of potential delays in flight operations due to the fog. The advisory said while planes will continue to land and take-off, flights that are not CAT III compliant may face delays. Passengers have been advised to contact their respective airlines for updated flight information.
According to flight tracking platform Flightradar24, around 75 flights have already been delayed, affecting both arrivals and departures.
Delhi’s Cold Wave Persists
The dense fog comes as Delhi continues to grapple with a cold wave affecting much of northern India. On Wednesday, the city recorded a minimum temperature of 8°C, while the maximum temperature is expected to reach 18°C. Residents are urged to exercise caution during travel and stay updated on weather and transportation advisories as foggy conditions are likely to persist in the coming days.
