Amid an ongoing water crisis in the national capital, residents in several areas of the city continued to face severe shortages on Monday. In Okhla, scenes of people with cans and buckets swarming around water tankers have become a daily reality since the onset of summer.

Neighbourhoods such as Chanakyapuri’s Sanjay Camp, Geeta Colony in East Delhi, Patel Nagar, Mehrauli and Chhatarpur are among the worst-hit. Residents in these areas are enduring long waits at water tankers, often for hours, to secure enough water for their daily needs.

Meanwhile, as the water supply crisis worsens in Delhi, police officials inspected the Jal Board pipelines in the Yamuna Khadar area of northeast Delhi on Sunday and found no signs of leakage.

After the inspection, Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) Lokendra Sirohi stated, “There is no leakage here. If there is any leakage, we will inform the Jal Board and our control room.” On the same day, Delhi Minister Atishi wrote to Delhi Police Commissioner Sanjay Arora, requesting the deployment of police personnel to safeguard major pipelines in the capital.

Atishi mentioned that ground patrols had discovered damage to some water supply pipelines. She urged the Commissioner to deploy personnel to protect these critical pipelines for the next 15 days.

Additionally, the Delhi Water Minister accused former South Delhi MP Ramesh Bidhuri of the BJP of attacking the Delhi Jal Board office in Chhatarpur with a group of individuals. The water crisis in Delhi has ignited widespread protests, vandalism, and political clashes across the city.

While addressing a press conference, Atishi said, “Delhi is currently facing severe heat. Even in this difficult time, the BJP has left no stone unturned to trouble the people of Delhi. The BJP is hatching a conspiracy against the people. This conspiracy has three parts. The first part of this is to stop the water supply to Delhi from the BJP government of Haryana. Due to this not even a drop of water is left at the Wazirabad Water Treatment Plant.”

AAP MLAs have accused Union Jal Shakti Minister CR Patil of failing to intervene in the ongoing water crisis in Delhi, while the BJP organised a ‘matka-phod’ protest against the Arvind Kejriwal government to highlight the issue.
