The Delhi traffic police has announced comprehensive traffic and security arrangements ahead of the Christmas celebrations to ensure public safety and smooth vehicular movement across the city. The advisory comes as large gatherings are expected at churches, markets, and popular public spots.

Security tightens around churches, public spots

The police have deployed adequate force around churches, shopping malls, and markets to manage crowd control and traffic. Prominent churches such as the Sacred Heart Cathedral near Gol Dak Khana, St Thomas Church on Mandir Marg, St Martin’s Church in Delhi Cantonment, St Thomas Church in R K Puram, and St Mary’s Knanaya Church in Vasant Kunj are expected to witness significant gatherings of devotees.

To prevent road incidents, the Delhi Police will conduct a crackdown on drunken driving, which will continue until the New Year. An officer emphasised that sufficient personnel have been allocated to ensure safe and orderly celebrations.

Traffic diversions

Traffic will be diverted and restricted on certain roads to facilitate smooth movement of people and vehicles. Major areas affected include Select City Mall in Saket, which is expected to draw large crowds.

  • Timings: Traffic diversions will commence from 2 PM on Wednesday.
  • Key restrictions:
  • All median cuts on the Sheikh Sarai to Hauz Rani stretch will remain closed.
  • Heavy vehicles and DTC/cluster buses will not be allowed on both carriageways of Press Enclave Road.

Alternate routes for commuters

  • Commuters traveling from Chirag Delhi to Qutub Minar via Press Enclave Road are advised to use the Khanpur Red Light T Point via MB Road to reach Mehrauli.
  • Those coming from the IIT Flyover towards Press Enclave Road should continue on Aurobindo Marg towards Mehrauli and use TB Hospital Road Red Light to reach Lado Sarai via MB Road.

Public transport restrictions

No public transport buses will be allowed to enter Pushp Vihar from MB Road/Asian Market Red Light. Commuters are encouraged to plan their journeys accordingly and use alternative routes for convenience.

The police will remain vigilant and proactive throughout the Christmas period, ensuring public celebrations are safe and orderly.
