Delhi Red Fort blast: What happened
As per a fire department official, 6 cars, 2 e-rickshaws and 1 autorickshaw were severely damaged in the fire, which escalated following a high-intensity explosion in a slow-moving car. The Monday evening incident took place at a traffic signal near the Red Fort metro station.
“The blast occurred in a moving Hyundai i20 car in which three people were sitting.,” PTI quoted a senior police officer. “We have not found any pellet or puncture in the body of the injured, which is unusual in a blast. We are investigating all angles.”
A high alert has since been sounded off in Delhi. The Delhi Police eventually detained the i20 owner Mohd Salman late Monday evening. He is believed to have told authorities that he sold it to a person named Devendra in Okhla one-and-a-half years ago.
The vehicle is then said to have been sold an unspecified person in Ambala before it came into the possession of man named Tariq in Pulwama. An officer shared at the time that police was tracing all the people linked to the car.
*The story was updated to correct details about victim named Ashok Kumar.
