Five people died in a tragic accident on Friday morning in Madhya Pradesh’s Ratlam district after a speeding car lost control, tore through the barrier of the eight-lane Delhi-Mumbai Expressway and plunged into a roadside ditch.

Superintendent of Police Amit Kumar told PTI that the crash occurred within the Rawti police station limits, around 30 km from the district headquarters.

“The car was heading towards Mumbai from Delhi. The vehicle broke the expressway barrier after the driver lost control and plunged into a ditch,” Kumar said.

He added that the vehicle appeared to be travelling at high speed and completely destroyed the aluminium safety barrier before falling into the ditch. Among the victims were a 15-year-old boy and a 70-year-old man.

Kumar said fatigue may have contributed to the crash. “We suspect the driver may have dozed off at the wheel, causing the accident,” he said.

Police recovered the bodies from the ditch and sent them for post-mortem. A detailed investigation is underway.

In a separate incident, a 40-year-old man was killed and his wife critically injured when an unidentified vehicle hit their motorcycle on National Highway-19 in Uttar Pradesh’s Chandauli district.

According to a PTI report, Chandauli Sadar police station SHO Sanjay Kumar Singh said the accident took place on 12 November. The deceased was identified as Vinod Kumar Kesari of Bhikaripur village.

Singh said Kesari was returning home from Saiyadraja with his wife when the collision occurred. The woman has been admitted to the district hospital, where her condition remains serious.

In another fatal road accident, four men died after their car crashed into the rear of a stationary truck in Uttar Pradesh’s Shamli district. The victims—Vivek (26), Prandeep (30), Ashish (28), and Sahil (25)—were all residents of Sonipat district in Haryana.

The crash happened on the night of 7 November near the Bantikheda bridge on the Panipat-Khatima highway while they were on their way to Muzaffarnagar, police said. ASP Santosh Kumar Singh told reporters that the car rammed into the stationary truck.
