Naveen Kichi, owner of the New Born Baby Care Hospital in Vivek Vihar in Delhi, where fire broke out resulting in the death of seven newborns, reports PTI.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (Shahdara) Surendra Choudhary said Kichi has been booked under sections 336 (act endangering life of personal safety of others) and 304A (causing death by negligence) at Vivek Vihar police station.
Meanwhile, Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Sunday warned that those responsible for negligence will not be spared.
He responded to a post by Health Minister Saurabh Bharadwaj who said that those found involved in the accident with be dealt with strictly.
“Very unfortunate incident reported. I have asked Secretary (Health) to update about the current situation. Culprits will not be spared. Strictest punishment will be ensured for those found negligent or involved in any wrong doing,” Bharadwaj said in a post on X.
The CM said that the Delhi government stands with those who lost their innocent children in this accident.
“Government and administration officials are busy providing treatment to the injured at the spot. The causes of the incident are being investigated and whoever is responsible for this negligence will not be spared,” the CM wrote.
The fire broke out at the Baby Care New Born Hospital in Shahdara on Saturday night. Twelve newborns were rescued from the medical facility but seven of them died, Delhi Fire Services chief Atul Garg said. Five babies are undergoing treatment at another hospital, he added.
The bodies have been shifted to the GTB Hospital for postmortem.
