Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MP Sanjay Singh’s judicial custody has been extended till November 24 in Delhi excise policy case. This came days after the Delhi High Court rejected his petition challenging his arrest by the Enforcement Directorate (ED).
Two consent letters related to development work seeking his signature were also filed and the court allowed the same, reports ANI.
A production warrant from Punjab in the defamation case was also received by the court, which granted it permission to produce Singh before the court in Amritsar, Punjab.
Singh stands accused of corruption linked to the Delhi Excise Policy case, with the ED alleging that he played a major role in the formulation and execution of the now-abandoned excise policy. This policy allegedly favoured specific liquor manufacturers, wholesalers, and retailers.
According to the ED chargesheet, Dinesh Arora, a restaurateur closely associated with Singh and Deputy Chief Minister Sisodia, was arrested by the CBI in July. Arora, reportedly introduced to Sisodia through Singh, is alleged to have facilitated funding for the Delhi assembly elections in 2020. Singh purportedly reached out to Arora for financial support, leading to the collection of cheques worth Rs 82 lakh from various restaurant owners.
The Delhi government’s excise policy, implemented in 2021 was scrapped after Lieutenant Governor Vinai Kumar Saxena recommended an investigation into alleged irregularities.
