The election campaign in Delhi came to a halt after 6 pm on Monday as the National Capital prepares to got to polls on February 5. The Delhi Police have significantly ramped up security measures across the city to ensure smooth conduct of the Delhi Assembly Elections. To maintain peace, the authorities have conducted flag marches in multiple areas ahead of voting day.
Delhi Polls: Increased patrols and flag marches
Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) South East, Ravi Kumar Singh, confirmed to ANI on Monday that the election campaigns have officially ended. Simgh said that that the police has stepped up route and flag marches to ensure there is no interference in the election process. Additional DCP, Rohini, Vishnu Kumar, further added that police patrolling was being conducted in the area, with a clear message encouraging residents to stay calm and cast their votes peacefully.
Delhi Voting Day: Security measures in place for poll day
To secure the national capital, Delhi Police has deployed a range of measures including paramilitary forces, police personnel, CCTVs, AI-powered cameras, drones, and facial recognition systems to monitor the law and order situation. A total of 35,626 police personnel, along with 6,525 under-training officers, will be on duty for the elections.
In addition, authorities have already made significant seizures, including cash worth Rs 11.23 crore and 1,08,258 liters of liquor valued at Rs 3.59 crore between January 7 and February 2. As part of the Model Code of Conduct enforcement, Delhi Police registered 1,315 FIRs and arrested 1,353 individuals during this period. Joint Commissioner of Police (JCP) Southern Range, SK Jain, highlighted that the past 24 days have seen unprecedented action, surpassing the records set during the 2020 Assembly and 2024 Parliamentary elections.
