Farmers protesting to push the Centre for their various demands have decided to continue their agitation at the two protest sites on the Punjab-Haryana border until February 29, when the next course of action will be decided.
This decision was made on Friday evening by the Samyukta Kisan Morcha (Non-Political) and Kisan Mazdoor Morcha (KMM), which are leading the ongoing protest at the Shambhu and Khanauri borders.
KMM leader Sarwan Singh Pandher said that the next course of action regarding the agitation will be decided and announced on February 29.
Pandher outlined the schedule for the upcoming days, including a candle march on February 24, seminars on farmer-related issues on February 25, burning effigies of the World Trade Organization and the Centre on February 26, and several meetings of SKM and KMM over the following days.
The ‘Delhi Chalo’ march was temporarily suspended for two days after a protester was killed and police personnel were injured in clashes at Khanauri.
Shubhkaran Singh’s death has sparked demands for justice, with farmers insisting on the registration of an FIR against those responsible. They are also at odds with the Punjab government over this issue and demand ‘martyr’ status for Singh.
Earlier, Punjab CM Bhagwant Mann announced Rs one crore compensation and a job for Singh’s sister.
The SKM and KMM are pressing for various demands, including MSP guarantees, pension, electricity tariff stability, and justice for victims of violence. Thousands of farmers remain camped at the border, demanding action on their grievances.
