Delhi Budget 2025 Highlights: Record budget for Delhi at Rs 1 lakh crore; Rekha Gupta targets Yamuna cleaning, infrastructure development & women schemes

- The Delhi government has allocated Rs 300 crore to combat pollution in the city and Rs 506 crore for the environment and forest department.

- The Delhi government will provide Rs 6,897 crore to the Municipal Corporation of Delhi, with the majority of the funds dedicated to redeveloping roads and sewage systems across the capital.

Delhi CM Rekha Gupta said that women will now receive a universal pass for free travel across the national capital. The previous system of issuing pink tickets for women on buses will be discontinued to avoid corruption. Instead, the BJP government will introduce a common bus pass that will allow women to travel for free on buses.

Slamming the previous government, Delhi CM Rekha Gupta said that AAP did nothing for Delhi. She noted that the budget of Rs 6000 crore is still pending for Metro, Rs 14000 crore financial loss in DTC, And healthcare is looking at a debt of Rs 25000 crore.

The Delhi government has allocated Rs 6,874 crore for the healthcare sector, which includes plans to establish health and wellness centers and expand the 'Ayushman Arogya Mandir' program.

Gupta announced Rs 696 crore for development in slum clusters. She also announced Rs 500 crore for sewage treatment plant and Rs 250 crore for water treatment plant. She also said that the Delhi government has ordered 31 Supersucker machines for more clean water in the National Capital.

Gupta allocated Rs 9000 crore for Clean water and sanitation in Delhi. This is three times more than the budget what last government allocated, Rekha Gupta said.

Delhi CM Rekha Gupta while presenting the budget highlighted the contrast between her government and the opposition, stating that while the opposition only criticised them and the Prime Minister, her government is dedicated to working for the people of Delhi. She pointed out that the previous government only announced schemes without implementing them, whereas her government is committed to carrying out these initiatives. She criticised the opposition for building a 'sheesh mahal', while her government is focused on providing homes for the poor, and for constructing expensive washrooms, while her government will build thousands of toilets for people living in slums.

Rekha Gupta announces that this budget is to improve Delhi's roadmap. She announced that Atal canteen will be opened in 100 places and Rs 100 crore have been allocated for this purpose.

Rekha Gupta announced an allocation of Rs 5,100 crore for paying Rs 2,500/month to eligible women. She also announced Rs 2,144 crore that will be allocated for PM Jan Arogya Yojana.

Chief Minister Rekha Gupta announced that the Delhi government’s budget for this financial year will be Rs 1 lakh crore, marking a 31.5 percent increase compared to the previous budget under the AAP government. She criticised the previous government for spending less on development, claiming they blamed a lack of funds, when in reality, the issue was not a shortage of money. She argued that the previous government failed to develop Delhi due to political reasons and personal agendas, which ultimately caused the entire city to suffer.

Kicking-off the Budget session, Chief Minister Rekha Gupta called the day historic, saying that this is not just a regular budget. She noted that people from Delhi and across the country are listening to it and this budget isn’t only about finances and spending—it presents a vision for the development of Delhi. She said that this budget is for a developed Delhi. She added that in the last ten years, the condition of Delhi kept getting worse. Under the previous government, problems like DTC issues, DUSIB, dirty water, broken sewers, and damaged roads became common in Delhi. All departments were in loss during the previous administration.

This Budget Session is important because it comes right after the 2025 Delhi Legislative Assembly election, where the BJP regained power after a long period of time.

The day before, Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta presented a report from the CAG on the DTC in the Assembly. The report pointed out poor management and financial losses, which led to criticism of the previous AAP government.

Sirsa called for a thorough investigation into these issues.

Leader of Opposition and former CM Atishi called for a discussion on the CAG report to take place on Wednesday, stating that the opposition needed time to properly review the findings.
