Delhi Budget 2024 Speech: Delhi Finance Minister Atishi Singh has begun presenting the 2024 Budget of the Arvind Kejriwal government. This year’s Budget’s central theme is ‘Ram Rajya’. Delhi Assembly’s Budget Session, which began on February 15, has now been extended to March 8. Officials say that this is the longest Assembly session in the AAP government’s present term. With the Lok Sabha Elections around the corner, the Delhi Budget is likely to see some massive announcements. Here are the latest updates on Delhi Budget 2024:

  • 1: This is the first Budget that Atishi Singh is tabling today as the Finance Minister. She was inducted in the Kejriwal Cabinet in March last year. Beginning her speech, Atishi said that the AAP government has worked a lot for the people. She said that Delhi is progressing towards ‘Ram Rajya.’ The Delhi Budget has seen a reduction in terms of total outlay. As against Rs 78,800 crore, this year’s budget is pegged at Rs 76,000 crore.
  • The AAP government has announced ‘Mukhyamantri Mahila Samman Yojana’ as part of the state budget. Under the scheme, a monthly stipend of Rs 1,000 will be awarded to all women who are 18 and above from the next fiscal 2024-25.
  • 2: Last year, Kailash Gahlot had presented the Delhi Budget. Gahlot had to present the state budget after ex-deputy CM Manish Sisodia was arrested over the alleged role in the in the excise policy case on February 26 last year.
  • 3: Before heading to the Delhi Assembly, Atishi was seen visiting the residence of Sisodia’s mother seeking her blessings. She posted the pics of the visit to Sisodia residence on X.
  • 4: The Delhi Budget may see a major focus on sectors such as roadways, health, education and power.
  • 5: Another issue is that of unauthorised colonies. Atishi may allocate more funds for these colonies.
