Indian cricketer S Sreesanth and two others have been booked by Kerala police on Thursday in connection with an alleged cheating case. An FIR has been registered against Sreesanth, Rajiv Kumar (50) and Venkatesh Kini (43).

The complaint has been filed by Sareesh Balagopalan, a resident of Choonda Kannapuram, who alleged that the trio cheated him on three occasions starting from April 25, 2019 to an amount totalling Rs 18.7 lakh, ANI reported.

Police have registered the case under IPC Section 420 (cheating and dishonestly inducing delivery of property).

In August 2013, Sreesanth faced a lifetime ban by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), along with his Rajasthan Royals teammates Ajit Chandila and Ankeet Chavan, over alleged spot-fixing in the Indian Premier League (IPL) that year. However, his lifetime ban was reduced to seven years in 2019, which he completed in September 2020.

However, Sreesanth made a comeback post his ban he was named in the 20-member squad for the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy in 2021 by the Kerala Cricket Association (KCA). Despite being shortlisted for the IPL auction in 2021 and 2022, he did not get any bets on him on both occasions.

Sreesanth made his Test debut in March 2006. He has played 27 matches, securing 87 wickets, and has 281 runs in his kitty. He also played in 53 One-Day Internationals, taking 75 wickets. His debut T20I encounter was in December, and he went on to play 10 matches and took 7 wickets.
