COVID-19 cases in India: Active COVID-19 cases in India have crossed the 6800 mark. Closer to 7000 now, there has been an increase of 324 cases on June 10 taking the positives to 6815. Three deaths have been reported from Kerala, Delhi and Jharkhand. Kerala leads the way with over 2000 cases now with Gujarat crossing the 1000 mark. Jharkhand reported the death of a 44-year-old man suffering from severe lung infection, septic shock, hypertension, and thyroid issues.
Gujarat crosses 1000 mark
Gujarat has seen steady and sharp increase in COVID-19 cases since May 30. The uptick has been over 100 cases everyday. On June 10, an increase of 129 cases was reported, taking the total active positives to 1109. It has become the second-most affected state with 2 deaths reported so far. As per health officials, the COVID-19 variants NB.1.81. and LF.7 are highly transmissible and more likely to affect coastal regions.
Kerala reaches 2000 active positives
With 16 overall deaths, one death was reported from Kerala due a COVID-19 positive report. While the COVID-19 variant JN.1 is not deadly and mild symptoms have been observed, paired with acute respiratory issues, it has been proven to be fatal. Seeing an increase of 96, the COVID-19 cases in Kerala have reached 2053.
West Bengal (747), Delhi (691), Maharashtra (613) and Karnataka (559) have been adversely affected too.
COVID-19 death toll
The total death tally has reached 68 with three deaths reported on June 10 with comorbidities remain a common underlying cause. In Delhi, a 90-year-old woman with chronic heart and kidney ailments died, with COVID-19 detected incidentally.
In Kerala, a 79-year-old man with multiple illnesses—including diabetes, heart and kidney disease, and a recent hip surgery—succumbed to COVID-19 pneumonia and multi-organ failure. Health officials noted that underlying comorbidities were the primary contributors in all three cases.
