An FIR has been registered against a lady doctor for alleged medical negligence after a cotton bundle was reportedly left inside a woman’s abdomen following a C-section delivery. The case was filed at TP Nagar police station in Meerut, Uttar Pradesh on Friday based on a court order issued by Assistant Chief Magistrate Prachi Aggarwal, police confirmed on Saturday.
Patient’s ordeal
The complainant, Rajni Sharma, alleged that she delivered a daughter at Sirohi Nursing Home on June 30, 2018, where the C-section was performed by Dr. Shikha Jain. After the surgery, Sharma began experiencing persistent abdominal pain. Despite multiple consultations with Dr. Jain, the condition was misdiagnosed as stomach ulcers, according to the police report.
Medical negligence
As Sharma’s condition worsened, she sought further medical help at a medical college, where two surgeries were performed. During these procedures, doctors reportedly discovered a cotton bundle left inside her abdomen, which she attributed to Dr. Jain’s negligence, said Station House Officer (SHO) Subodh Kumar Saxena.
Legal action
After receiving no response from various authorities, including the Chief Medical Officer (CMO), Sharma decided to approach the court. Acting on the court’s directive, TP Nagar police registered the case on Friday. SHO Saxena confirmed, “The case was registered following a court order by Assistant Chief Judicial Magistrate Prachi Aggarwal on Rajni Sharma’s complaint.”
Doctor denies allegations
Dr. Shikha Jain has denied all allegations, dismissing the claims as an attempt to extort money. “There is nothing like that. This is just a way to take money from the doctor,” she told PTI. When asked about the alleged monetary demands, Dr. Jain stated that she was unaware of the specifics.
Meerut Chief Medical Officer Dr. Ashok Kataria stated he was unaware of any complaint filed by Sharma at his office. Meanwhile, the police have initiated an investigation into the matter to determine the facts behind the allegations.
