The Congress has filed a complaint before the Election Commission against Prime Minister Narendra Modi over his ‘infiltrator’ remark that he made at a rally in Rajasthan’s Banswara on Monday, the Hindustan Times reported.

Congress leader Abhishek Manu Singhvi conveyed, “We hold utmost respect for the office held by Prime Minister Modi; he serves as much as our Prime Minister as he does for others or the BJP. With the elevation of his position, the responsibility to exhibit restraint amplifies. Regrettably, the statement attributed to him is profoundly objectionable. Such conduct is not anticipated from the Prime Minister. We earnestly appeal to him, with sincere humility, to retract these remarks and provide clarification.”

While addressing an election rally in Banswara, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said, “The Congress manifesto says they will calculate the gold with mothers and sisters, and then distribute that property. They will distribute it to whom – Manmohan Singh’s government had said that Muslims have the first right on the country’s assets.”

PM Modi further stated, “Previously, during their (Congress) tenure in government, they asserted that Muslims hold the primary claim to the nation’s assets. This implies that the distribution of such property would favor those with larger families.”

“It will be distributed to the infiltrators. Should your hard-earned money go to the infiltrators? Do you approve of this?” he said.

Complaint against PM Modi – Here’s what Congress said

In the complaint, according to a report by Hindustan Times, Congress said, “Shri Narendra Modi and the Bharatiya Janata Party (and its senior leaders) have deliberately and repeatedly, invoked religion, religious symbols, and religious sentiments in its election campaign and the same is being done without any impunity”

The Congress contended that the Prime Minister made “false and divisive insinuations, aimed at a specific religious community, and encouraged the general public to incite unrest, potentially targeting said community.”

The venerable party noted that it had lodged multiple complaints against PM Modi and the BJP, yet the electoral body had not issued even a show cause notice to him. “The Commission ought to reflect on whether equivalent leniency would be extended to any other candidate who, in such a brazen and repeated manner, flouted the laws of our nation,” the Congress asserted.
