Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis took the oath as a member of the Maharashtra Legislative Assembly on Saturday, marking the first day of the three-day special session.

Deputy Chief Ministers Eknath Shinde and Ajit Pawar also took the oath as members of the assembly. The oath was administered to the three leaders by the pro-tem speaker, Kalidas Kolambkar, shortly after the House session began at 11 a.m. The pro-tem speaker will continue to administer the oath to the remaining 287 newly-elected MLAs.

The results of the November 20 Maharashtra assembly elections, announced on November 23, saw the Mahayuti alliance, comprising the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Shiv Sena, and Nationalist Congress Party (NCP), securing a significant victory by winning 230 of the 288 seats.

The new government was officially sworn in on December 5, with Devendra Fadnavis returning as Chief Minister, and Eknath Shinde and Ajit Pawar assuming their roles as Deputy Chief Ministers.
